Forty-eight years ago today, I became a minority partner in my relationship with Leah. On my best day, I have 49% of the vote and she thinks I am an optimist. Because I have never tried to change my voting power in this relationship, I have been happily married ever since.
We were supposed to go out to dinner, but yesterday, I came down with a terrible cold, which has kept me cooped up all day. To celebrate our anniversary, Leah made me a wonderful home cooked meal. We then celebrated by reading together on the back deck while the sun was going down over the golf course. It wasn’t dinner at Bay Harbor as I planned, but it was really nice.
Even though I was listening to the Tiger broadcast when Tiger analyst and announcer, Jack Morris, made his derogatory enunciation in response to Matt Sheppard’s question, I didn’t notice how he said it. Upon reading about it today and listening to the comment, it was a mistake in judgement that an experienced analyst like Morris should know cannot be made. Bally Sports was right to suspend him. Morris has since apologized, but it appears that his apology was written by a lawyer and did not come from his heart. Morris should apologize using his own words and not some legalize. I hope that Morris keeps his job after serving his suspension. He is a good analyst and he deserves a second chance.
The Michigan legislature never ceases to amaze me regardless of party. Based on an article in Bridge Magazine, certain Republican legislatures who during the last year have insisted that government should not impose medical practices upon individual or businesses, are now trying to prevent individual businesses from imposing vaccination and mask mandates on their employees as a condition of employment. I am amazed at how politicians think nothing of changing their stories depending on the circumstances.
I am reading a very interesting book, “The Burglary, The Discovery of J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI’ by Betty Medsger. It is a story of the break-in on March 8, 1971 of an FBI office in Media, Pennsylvania in which all of the files were stolen and then gradually released to the media over a few months. The files eventually led to an overhaul of the FBI after the death of J. Edgar Hoover in 1972. It reinforces how the time between 1963 and 1975 was a tumultuous time, in which all to often political leadership felt the end justified the means. March 8, 1971 was the night of the first Ali/Frazier fight, so the burglars knew that most Americans, including law-enforcement would be pre-occupied with the fight.
Stay safe. Social distance. Wear your mask. Wash your hands regularly. Get your vaccine.
Orchid of the Day: Leah, for providing me with 48 years of marital bliss.
Onion of the Day: Jack Morris, for his attempt to being funny which was inappropriate and derogatory.
Quote of the Day: Jack Morris screwed up big-time; he must learn from it, but shouldn’t be fired.” Detroit News columnist Lynn Henning
