Congrats to the Taylor, Michigan Little League team for advancing to the finals of the Hank Aaron bracket with their big win today over Texas. Taylor takes on Hawaii on Friday, who Taylor lost to on Wednesday 2-0. If Taylor continues to swing the bat the way they have for the entire tournament, I am confident they will beat Hawaii on Friday.
I feel for the families and friends of the 13 American servicemen who lost their lives today because of a suicide bomber near the Kabul airport. I hope our future leaders remember this day if we ever consider invading another country without a plan to get out immediately. The U.S. seems to be able to do the invading part really well. It is the getting out part of the equation that we are not very good at achieving. I also hope that those responsible for the deaths of the 13 servicemen are held accountable, as President Biden says they will.
With Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations, and cases in Florida at an all time pandemic high this week, my November golf trip is looking less and less appealing. Currently the full vaccination rate for all of those eligible is 52%. Hopefully with the full FDA approval of the Pfizer vaccine this will improve significantly in the next month or two. I am not ready to call the trip off for myself yet, but if things do not change soon, no way am I going.
This should not surprise anyone. The NY Times is reporting today, A group of seven Capitol Police officers filed a lawsuit on Thursday accusing former President Donald J. Trump and nearly 20 members of far-right extremist groups and political organizations of a plot to disrupt the peaceful transition of power during the Capitol riot on Jan. 6. The suit, which implicated members of the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers militia and Trump associates like Roger J. Stone, is arguably the most expansive civil effort to date seeking to hold former president Trump and his allies legally accountable for the storming of the Capitol. The suit is the first to allege that former president Trump worked in concert with both far-right extremists and political organizers promoting that the presidential election was marred by fraud.
Stay safe. Social distance. Wear your mask. Wash your hands regularly. Get your vaccine.
Orchid of the Day: Hunter Dickenson, U of M Men’s basketball member, for showing up at the Little League World Series. With his 7’1” inch frame there was no way he was not going to be noticed by the ESPN crew, who eventually interviewed him. Although he played Little League, his teams never made it to the World Series. Since he lives less than four hours away, he “tweeted” on Tuesday wondering if any tickets were available. He got a response from the Taylor, Michigan coach. Hunter and his dad made the trip and was able to watch the team play on Wednesday night.
Onion of the Day: ISIS-K, the Afghan affiliate of the Islamic State, which claimed responsibility for the attacks earlier in the day on behalf of its loyalists in Afghanistan.
Quote of the Day “This is probably the most comprehensive account of Jan. 6 in terms of civil cases. It spans from the former president to militants around him to his campaign supporters.” Edward Caspar, a lawyer for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, who is leading the above-mentioned suit by members of the Capitol Police
