Thoughts for the Day, August 3, 2021: Cuomo is toast

Miggy hit homerun number 498 tonight in the second inning.  This is fun to watch.

On a road I travel nearly everyday while in Ypsilanti, two teenagers died and one is in critical condition as their car lost control going over the railroad tracks on Superior Road just north of the Huron River.  They were traveling at a high rate of speed, which can cause your car to go air born when you hit the railroad tracks.  It is so sad to read about young lives lost, especially when it was avoidable.

USA men’s basketball team has made it to the semifinals.  Winning gold in basketball is no longer a sure thing.  There are many NBA and former NCAA basketball players on the national teams of other countries.  The talent in these games is outstanding.  Nothing can be taken for granted.  There are no sure wins.  The USA getting the gold will happen if they stay focused, play as a team, and hustle.

I was happy to see Simone Biles come away with a bronze medal in the balance beam.  The last week has not been easy for her.  As I said prior to the start of the Olympics, no matter what happened she is still the greatest female gymnast ever. She is the GOAT.

I received this text from my friend Richard Kerns regarding elite athletes.  It is a very interesting perspective. Reading your words of wisdom, I would like to add the following. These elite athletes set their own standards of performance and are usually harder on themself than people realize.  With that said, just because one may fall short of “their own” goals, people should not pile on. Instead, they should consider the time, training and effort that goes into training for the Olympics and how disappointed one is when they fall short of a medal or can’t perform for whatever reason.  The Olympics do not come around every year, like seasonal sports.  The window of opportunity is much shorter for these athletes to reap the rewards (Gold, Silver and Bronze) in their particular sport.  This is very well said.

According to a report from the New York State attorney general, Letitia James, released on Tuesday. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women, including current and former government workers, breaking state and federal laws and engaging in a pattern of unwanted touching and inappropriate comments. The 165-page report said that Mr. Cuomo, a third-term Democrat, and his aides cultivated a toxic work culture in his office that was rife with fear and intimidation, and helped enable “harassment to occur and created a hostile work environment.” Later tonight, President Biden called on Cuomo, the three-term governor, to resign.

Stay safe. Social distance. Wear your mask.  Wash your hands regularly.  Get your vaccine.

Orchid of the Day: Miggy for number 498

Onion of the Day:  Governor Andrew Cuomo

Quote of the Day: “What I said was if the investigation by the attorney general concluded that the allegations were correct, back in March, I would recommend he resign.  That is what I’m doing today.” President Biden on Governor Cuomo
