My younger brother Garry turns 60 today. A big Happy Birthday to him.

If you have grown up in the Detroit area, there a certain must sees or dos, such as going to Greenfield Village and the Ford Museum (their old name), enjoying Belle Isle, the Detroit Zoo, touring the Ford Rouge plant, and visiting the Motown Museum/Hitsville USA. As a result, I was pleased to read the story in the Detroit News today about the expansion of the Motown Museum. Here are excerpts from the story.
Motown’s family of artists gathered for a homecoming of sorts Monday outside the Motown Museum, celebrating the completion of the first two phases of an ambitious expansion plan and saying it lays the groundwork for the next generation of young stars.
Smokey Robinson, Otis Williams of the Temptations and Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist were among hundreds who gathered at a new outdoor plaza outside Hitsville U.S.A. on West Grand Boulevard. The plaza stretches in front of five houses where Berry Gordy Jr. created the Motown sound 63 years ago.
The newly completed outdoor courtyard, which Robin Terry, the museum’s CEO and president, calls the new “front porch,” is one of two new changes at the museum, which launched a fundraising campaign in 2016 to expand and updates its facilities.
Hitsville Next, the first phase of the museum’s expansion which also has been completed, interconnects the four houses surrounding the original recording studio and now offers a creative hub for entrepreneurship and education. “This is one of those projects that people said, ‘Robin, you might be dreaming too big’ and yet here we are,” said Terry, Gordy’s niece.
If you have not been there, it is worth your time to tour it once.

The Detroit Tigers scored seven runs in the last two innings of their game on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Since then, they did not scored a run over 18 innings. Through Monday for all 30 MLB teams, they are last in runs, homeruns, slugging percentage, and OBS. They have 21 less homeruns than the 29th place Cleveland Guardians, who are shutting the Tigers out today. Football season cannot start soon enough.

The legal issues continue to tighten their hold on former president Trump, with the latest raid by the FBI on his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Springs, Florida. This is a follow-up to the discovery earlier that boxes of presidential papers had been removed from the White House and taken to Mar-a-Lago on the day of Biden’s inauguration. The removal of presidential papers is illegal, though it has been loosely enforced. As expected, the Democrats are encouraging AG Garland to continue his investigation into Trump, while the Republicans are calling this nothing more than a political prosecution. Time will tell. Trump’s lawyers are working overtime lately and it looks like they will continue to do so in the near future.

Every year at this time we read about drownings on the Great Lakes. Two young adults drowned this weekend in South Haven. The beach had a yellow flag warning, which indicates swimmers should be very cautious. So far in 2022, there have been at least 69 drownings on the five Great Lakes, according to the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project. It is a shame. People seem to forget the Great Lakes are like mini oceans without salt water. They have high waves and rip tides, which can prove fatal to the inexperienced swimmer.
Pleaase feel free to share my blog.
Elections Matter. Pray for peace and tolerance. What are you doing to stop the violence and mass killings?
Orchid of the Day: To my Radrick Farm golfing buddies, John Gerber and Lee Lambarth for having holes-in-one last week, and Tom Peterson for shooting a 3 under par 69. All great accomplishments.
Onion of the Day: The Detroit Tiger’s offense.
Quote of the Day: “If your paying $3 for a bottle of smart water, it is not working” Unknown but wise.
Question of the Day: Will the FBI raid on former president Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence set a precedent and lead to future raids on ex-presidents once they leave office?
