Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell finally acknowledged President Elect Joe Biden’s victory following yesterday’s electoral voting. As reported by the NY Times, now he is trying to make sure no senators agree to disrupt the vote on January 6 when Congress meets to ratify the Electoral College’s decision. What took him so long?
The University of Michigan Wolverines announced that their game with Iowa on Saturday is being cancelled because of Covid-19 issues with the team. That is now two games that U of M has had to cancel plus they missed a third game because of Covid issues at the University of Maryland. This has not been a good year for the Wolverines as they will finish the Covid shortened season at 2-4. It may get better later this week when the early signing of new recruits takes place. If all goes weil U of M is expected to have a top 10 recruiting class. I am not sure it matters based on the coaching I have seen in the last few years.
The Detroit Lions have decided to hire former Lion allstar linebacker Chris Spielman as a full-time special assistant to Owner Sheila Ford Hamp and President Rod Wood. Spielman, a former Buckeye, had a great career in his eight years as a Lion. He was not the biggest, fastest, or strongest linebacker on the team, but he had more heart than anyone else. He has since been a TV analyst for college and professional football. He is known to speak his mind. This should workout to be a win/win.
Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm has been nominated by President Elect Biden to become the Secretary of Energy, which is a position she previously sought under the Obama administration. She is not one my favorites. It is hard for me to get behind someone who almost single-handedly ran the state into backruptcy, was part of the Wayne County “mafia” as a member of McNamara’s team, and left Michigan less than 30 days following the end of her two terms as governor.
Quote of the Day: “Football is a direct reflection of life. There are wins, there are losses; you get knocked down, you get back up.” Chris Spielman
