Thoughts for the Day, December 18, 2020: Hope

It never fails. Every third Friday of the month I attend the Packard Health, Inc. board meeting. After the meeting I am always filled with hope because of all the things Packard Health accomplishes from month to month. It is a place where little miracles occur every day. My hope today comes from the reality of the vaccine. Knowing that the Packard staff will be getting the vaccine within the next few weeks is exciting. Seeing a timeline showing that most Americans who want it, will be vaccinated by late Spring gives me hope. It is hope that will help me get through the next few months until it is safe to return to some sort of normalcy.

Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon passed away today from Covid-19 at the age of 65. Sheriff Napoleon was also the Chief of Police in Detroit in the 90’s. He achieved national fame with his efforts to track down the person responsible for the attack on figure skater Nancy Kerrigan at the US Figure Skating Championships. Working with Mayor Dennis Archer he welcomed federal oversight of the police department to help rid the department of corruption that was rampant throughout the department. Most important he loved Detroit and its citizens. He was a cop’s cop who had no tolerance for criminals.

It was nice to see Vice President Pence get his vaccine this morning on national television. I hope this will go along way in removing the concerns that so many people have about getting the vaccine. President Elect Biden is scheduled to receive his vaccine next week. It also will be televised.

I am spending the weekend in Petoskey. It is gorgeous here in the winter, especially when the sun is shining and reflecting off the snow and off the beautiful blue bay. Without the leaves on the trees, I have a beautiful view of the snow covered golf course and I get to see spectacular sunsets from my living room. The city and surrounding community do a great job of decorating for the holidays. The lights at the entrance to Crooked Tree and Bay Harbor bring so much joy everytime I see them. There is one tree at the entrance to Bay Harbor that has every branch wrapped in colored LED lights. I have never seen another tree so beautifully decorated.

On Fridays, I am going to be abandoning my quote of the day and replacing it with a youtube video. Here is one of my favorites. Stay safe, wear your mask, social distance and wash your hands regularly.
