As I indicated in yesterday’s blog, it is going to be interesting to watch the war for the Republican party after Mitch McConnell’s comments following the impeachment trial. Well it didn’t take long for the war to escalate. Donald Trump issued a scathing 600 word letter about McConnell and others who did not support him. As reported by multiple sources. Former President Trump resorted to insults about Mr. McConnell’s acumen and political abilities, and faulted him for Republicans’ loss of their Senate majority.“The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political ‘leaders’ like Sen. Mitch McConnell at its helm,” Trump said. “McConnell’s dedication to business as usual, status quo policies, together with his lack of political insight, wisdom, skill, and personality, has rapidly driven him from majority leader to minority leader, and it will only get worse.” That didn’t take long.
So much for loyalty. Prior to the insurrection of January 6, Trump’s top supporters and most loyal backers were, Vice President Pence, Senator Mitch McConnell and Rudy Giuliani. Since January 6, Trump has thrown all three under the bus. He has threatened Pence’s and McConnell’s political careers and much more. Today he dismissed Giuliani as his personal attorney. I wonder if Giuliani will ever get paid the $20,000 per day his firm was supposedly charging Trump for services rendered.
I never thought I would see this. Today MLive reported that Ann Arbor Public Schools issued a district wide virtual snow day, even though all of the school is allowing no in school classes. Their logic was that the pandemic was depriving the students of so many things, that it only seemed right that they should not be deprived of legitimate snow days during the pandemic. Are you kidding me? In all my years of attending elementary and high school I only recall one snow day.
The G.O.A.T should have known better. The daughter of the person who designed the Super Bowl Trophy-the Lombardi Trophy thinks Tom Brady owes her and her family an apology for desecrating the trophy by throwing it from one boat to another during the Tampa Bay Buc’s Super Bowl celebration floatation. It is a good thing Lord Stanley and his family do not feel the same way. The stories of what the Stanley Cup has had to endure over the years are legendary. Many of them are not fit for family television.
The Detroit Pistons and Blake Griffin have decided to part ways. Griffin who will make $39 million next year is on the downward side of his career. His body can no longer play starter minutes in the 80 game NBA schedule and the Pistons are not willing to pay that kind of money for a person coming off the bench. “After extensive conversation with Blake’s representatives, it has been determined that we will begin working to facilitate a resolution regarding his future with the team that maximizes the interests of both parties,” Pistons general manager Troy Weaver said in a team statement. In other words, the Pistons are going to trade Griffin for the best package they can get to help with their rebuild. Didn’t the Lions just do this?
Stay safe. Social distance. Wear your mask. Wash your hands regularly. Schedule your vaccine.
Quote of the Day: “Dour, sullen, unsmiling political hack.” One of many things former President Trump said about Senator Mitch McConnell
Orchid of the Day: Michigan gymnast Natalie Wojcik who became just the third Wolverine to score a perfect 10.0 on beam and the first since 1997!
Onion of the Day: Ann Arbor Public Schools for issuing a virtual snow day today. I was going to give it to all the south Alabama businesses who closed this morning until noon because the temperature dropped to 24 with a wind chill of 17 degrees.
Wow, harsh on the kids. My grandkids are working hard to do their virtual work and are also stressed by the COVID changes. The break is welcome, and dare say, needed. These are different times than when you, or I, were in school. Thank you – Wanda
