Thoughts for the Day, Friday the 13th of October: Stephen King and Alfred Hitchcock couldn’t create a story as bizarre as what is going on in the House of Representatives.

Congratulations to Lexi Thompson. Lexi competed on Thursday and Friday in the men’s PGA tour event in Las Vegas. She was trying to become only the second women to make the cut in a men’s tour event. Although she didn’t make the cut, she shot even par for the two days and today shot a two under par 69.  She finished ahead of 40 men.  I hope she inspires more young women to become interested in golf.  Lexi gets my Orchid of the Day.

This morning while at the gym, I asked one of my conservative buddies what he thought of our illustrious House of Representatives.  His response was classic.  “Stephen King and Alfred Hitchcock couldn’t come up with a story as bizarre as what is currently going on in congress.” He gets my Quote of the Day.

In recognition of this being Friday the 13th, I cannot think of anything scarier than the thought of the former president and his proteges winning the presidential election in 2024. I would like to think it is not possible, but I know he has a strong base of supporter within the Republican party who think like him. If the Democrats screw up like they did in 2016, we could have another nightmare on our hands.  Just when I think the former president cannot stoop any lower, he never ceases to amaze.

We all know the former president wants his loyal follower Jim Jordan as the Speaker of the House.  He mentions Scalise’s battle with cancer as a reason to not support him. Here is what the former president said “Steve is a man that is in serious trouble from the standpoint of his cancer. I mean, he’s got to get better for himself. I’m not talking about even country now. I’m saying got to get better. And this is tremendous stress.” Anyone who thinks the former president is saying this out of concern for Scalise is delusional.

Then there are his comments about Hezbollah. Per Newsweek, the former president said: “Can you imagine national defense people. And they said, ‘Gee, I hope Hezbollah doesn’t attack from the north, because that’s the most vulnerable spot.’ And I said wait a minute, you know, Hezbollah is very smart. They’re very smart.” the former president went on to note how the press “killed” him for previously praising President Xi, before again saying Hezbollah had been “very smart” to attack Israel from the north. The remarks are the latest example of the former president praising adversaries of the U.S., having previously complimented China’s President Xi JinpingRussian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un.

And finally, a few weeks back per the Huffington Post, the former president reportedly shared details about America’s nuclear submarine program with an Australian billionaire, who then went on to tell journalists, foreign officials and others about the sensitive information, according to multiple reports.

ABC News first reported that special counsel Jack Smith had learned about Trump’s disclosure to the billionaire — a cardboard magnate named Anthony Pratt — as part of his investigation into the former president’s handling of classified documents. the former president allegedly told Pratt several government secrets about the submarines during an event at his Mar-a-Lago club and residence in Florida, where the billionaire is a member.

Pratt reportedly told prosecutors and FBI agents that he brought up the submarine fleet in April 2021, after the former president had left the White House. The former president then revealed the supposed number of nuclear warheads that are on board U.S. submarines at any time and how close the vessels can get to a Russian submarine without detection.

The billionaire, ABC News added, shared that information with at least 45 people, including three former Australian prime ministers, a half dozen journalists and other foreign officials. Australia recently inked a deal with the United States to spend up to $245 billion over the next three decades to build a fleet of nuclear-powered submarines.

It’s unclear if the details were accurate or if they were bluster or exaggerations, but ABC News reported that Pratt was informed by investigators not to share the numbers he was reportedly given.

On this Friday the 13th, it scares the living daylight out of me that after 90 indictments, two impeachments, January 6, 2021, the hoarding and sharing of classified documents, sexist behavior toward women, and just plain self-centered arrogance, the former president is the front runner for the Republican nomination for the presidency in 2024. It should scare the hell out of everyone else too.

The MLB championship series are set with the Texas Rangers taking on the defending world series champs the Houston Astros in the American League and the Arizona Diamondbacks taking on the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League.  None of the favorites or the teams with the best records made it to the championship series, which is what makes baseball so unpredictable.  On any given day any team can win.  Even the miserable 2003 Tigers won 49 games and they were awful.
