This is board meeting week for me. I have four different meetings that I must prepare for since I am the treasurer. Today I spent over 6 hours on board prep and I have another 4 hours to go prior to Friday afternoon. Thus, my blog today will consist of random thoughts that require no research. Here you go.
Gary Moeller: I was saddened to read tonight about the passing of former head football coach who led the University of Michigan to Big Ten titles in his first three seasons in the early 1990s and later briefly coached the Detroit Lions. He was 81.
Tigers: After winning six in a row, they now have lost three in row. Hitting has been non-existent the last three games. Allowing two unearned runs in the 8th inning yesterday was too hard to overcome.
Pistons: I like their young core, so I am very positive about the future.
Red Wings: I trust Steve Yzerman to do in Detroit what he did in Tampa Bay.
Lions: Cautiously optimistic that they will win at least one playoff game over the remainder of my life.
Steve Bannon: It is tough getting squeezed by the Feds with their unlimited resources and you are facing prison time for contempt of court. It is no surprise here that he has agreed to testify before the House Select Committee. His trial for contempt starts next week.
Petoskey weather: We finally had rain today after 7 straight days of sunny and 72. It didn’t stop Leah and her paddle board group from going out tonight for their evening paddle.
Umpire safety: I continue to pursue possible legislation for the protection of sports officials over and above the current criminal laws in place. It will be an uphill battle, but as I learned a long time ago, gentle pressure relentlessly applied breaks pipes.
Extremists: It seems more and more the political parties are being taking over by the extremists of the party. Centrist candidates need not apply. Compromise is a dreaded word. I win you lose, is the strategy of choice.
Licensed gun dealers: In doing my research last week, I learned that there are three times as many licensed type-1 gun dealers (52,700) in the United as there are McDonalds (15,000). In fact, there are more licensed gun dealers in the U.S than there are McDonalds, Starbuck (8,500) and Subways (25,000) combined. Think about that for a minute.
The economy: Twice as many job openings as we have people looking for work. Inflation at a 40-year high. Unemployment at 3.6% which is below the threshold of 4% which is considered full employment. Stock Market down over 20% since the first of the year. Negative GDP growth in the first quarter. If it happens in the second quarter it will be considered a recession, the first since 2009. It will be a tough ride for Biden and the Democrats if things do not change. As Bill Clinton said when he was running against President George H.W. Bush in 1992, “It is the economy, stupid!”
Inflation: We have been fortunate that inflation has been kept under wraps the last 40 years. Inflation can kill an economy and it is a progressive tax on the poor. It impacts the poor much harder than those that can absorb the price increase and still maintain their lifestyle.
House Select Committee: The committee is doing the job they need to do by getting the facts in front of the public. It is up to the public to interpret them and use the information to vote. Any legal ramifications are out of the average citizen’s control.

Elections Matter. Pray for peace and tolerance. What are you doing to stop the violence and mass killings?
Orchid of the Day: Bob Mull, for shooting less than his age at Radrick Farms Golf Course last week. He shot a one under par 71.
Onion of the Day: The Tiger for following up their six-game win streak with a soon to be four game losing streak by the time the night is over.
Quote of the Day: “Gary Moeller was a great family man, great friend, great coach and a man of integrity and high character. I admired him, I respected him and I loved him.” former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr.
Question of the Day: Were you surprised to learn there were more gun dealers in the U.S than there are McDonalds, Starbucks and Subway combined?

Ramón Santiago told the guys he'd shave his head if we won six in a row.
