I reiterate what I wrote last night. Regardless of what happens in the Tokyo Olympics, Simone Biles is still the greatest female gymnast of all time.
So much for a seven-game winning streak. The Tigers after winning seven straight home games, have now lost five straight on the road. Their road losses are now eleven straight. Good teams play .500 on the road and clean up at home. Since May 1, the Tigers have been cleaning up at home, but they are well below .500 on the road.
The first day of testimony in the congressional hearing into the January 6 insurrection was very emotional and very sad. I am glad this hearing is moving forward. The U.S. citizens are entitled to hear the truth about what happened.
As more and more health systems and municipalities are requiring all employees to be fully vaccinated to maintain employment, the Biden administration is considering making vaccines mandatory for all federal employees. Those who are not vaccinated will be subject to weekly covid-19 test to maintain their jobs. Anything to make more people get vaccinated to achieve herd immunity is a good thing, in my humble opinion.
I was saddened to hear about the 21 year-old Lincoln Park resident who fell to his death from Castle Rock at the Pictured Rocks shoreline in Munising. There is no explanation as to why he decided to go past the protective barrier to get closer to the edge.
With the surge in covid-19 variants, the risk of new mandates are rising across the country. The Detroit News is reporting that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Tuesday she’s following developments on new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance on mask wearing closely, but has no plans to bring back a requirement that people mask up indoors. The Democratic governor’s remarks came as the federal agency recommended increased mask wearing to prevent transmission of the highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19, which has become the dominant strain of the virus in the United States. The new CDC guidance urges that all teachers, staff and children at K-12 schools wear masks this fall, and that people who live in areas of substantial or high COVID-19 transmission mask up indoors even if they’re vaccinated against the coronavirus. The next 6 months are going to be interesting if we cannot get the variant under control.
Stay safe. Social distance. Wash your hands regularly. Wear your mask properly. Schedule your vaccine.
Orchid of the Day: Michigan Medicine Hospital for being named the number one hospital in Michigan and the 11th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report magazine.
Onion of the Day: All the sports pundits, commentators, and fans who are trashing Simone Biles for pulling out of the team competition because of her mental state caused by the immense pressure she is under to win.
Quote of the Day: “Papa, I hate the rough. Can I move my ball out of the rough onto the fairway?” My granddaughter learning about golf and why the longer grass is called the “rough”.
I wonder when or if people will understand, accept, and address mental health. It is so integral to all aspects of our life and our community.
