Thoughts for the Day, June 2, 2020: A great day to turn 70

A big Orchid to Leah for honoring my request to keep my 70th birthday, simple with no surprises. Thanx to Leah I had a great day that was simple and rewarding.

We had our morning caffeine as I opened my birthday card and gift from Leah.

It was then a trip to the gym where we both lifted weights for 40 minutes and then it was off to breakfast at my favorite breakfast place in Petoskey, the Bayside Restaurant at the bottom of Crooked Tree.

After letting our food settle, we went on an 18 mile bike ride along the Little Traverse Wheel Way and the shores of Little Traverse Bay. It was a perfect day for a ride with no wind, cool temperatures and lots of sun. I am so happy that we both can still do this.

I grabbed a quick snack and then jumped on the golf course and worked my way around people to play 14 holes in a couple of hours on a perfect afternoon.

A late afternoon of reading and relaxing was followed by a birthday dinner with the Snyders and Ainslies at the Side Door Saloon. Dessert was three brownies topped with ice cream that we shared.

I got home just in time to have a zoom call with my brother Garry and sister Nancy, as well as my brother in law Zane, my niece Jenna, my nephew Mark and my grandchildren Alaina, Nolan and Kaylen. My brother Larry was not able to join us.

During the day, I received lots of texts and messages wishing me a happy birthday, including a call from Mrs. Mihaiu who is 24 years older than me. She is the mother of my best friend George, and she was like a second mother to me. I am always amazed at how smart and alert she still is. I love her so much.

It was a great day which I spent exactly how I wanted to spend it. Thank you Leah.

My Birthday Quote of the Day: Be who you are and say what you feel… because those that matter… don’t mind…and those that mind…don’t matter!
