I am learning that writing a daily blog requires discipline, planning, preparation and time. Sometimes even the best intentions go askew. Yesterday was one of those days. I apologize to my followers, who I know wait up at night for the blog to arrive in their email. Some probably couldn’t sleep last night wondering what happened and feeling like their day was incomplete. As a result, today you get a two for.
On Wednesday I gave an Orchid to Michigan Republican legislator Ed McBroom, chairperson of the Oversight Committee for the committee’s report finding no fraud in Michigan’s November 2020 election. Former President Trump did not agree with me as he said about McBroom and Majority Leader Shirkey, the Michigan Senate GOP’s eight-month investigation into the election, which involved 28 hours of public committee testimony and a review of thousands of subpoenaed documents, was a “cover up.” Trump claimed it was “a method of getting out of a forensic audit for the examination of the presidential contest.” Once again President Trump turns on two loyal supporters the minute he feels they are not 100% behind his lies. When are people going to learn, it is always about Trump and he cares for no one else?
I read an interesting article today that was referenced in NY Times daily briefing. The article was about an 83year-old blind women who was befuddled as to why no one would assist her while she was shopping in a sex toy store. Even the forty-some who drove her to the store was hesitant to help her navigate the store. Here is a quote from the women. “I didn’t see what the problem was. I’m a perfectly respectable woman who knows what she wants and has the ability to pay for it. At 83, I may be a little older than most, and legally blind, but generally speaking, people are pleased to welcome me into their shops and boutiques and promptly move forward to offer assistance. But here? In this sophisticated SoHo sex store? It was like a parting of the waters, with me marooned on a distant shore. No one was asking if I needed help finding anything. Worse yet, the friend I had invited specifically to review and report on the merchandise seemed to have vanished. Had she been magically vaporized in a mist of embarrassment by the array of multicolored dildos greeting us upon entry? What did she expect in a place like this? Variety is their specialty.”
On Wednesday I talked about a Houston hospital who fired over 100 employees who refused to get their covid-19 vaccination. I said that this story was going to playout across the country in the next year. Yesterday the City of San Francisco announced all of their employees must be vaccinated or they will risk termination. The rules will be phased in over the next year. The message is clear that many employers are going to make vaccination a requirement of employment.
The fall of Rudy Giuliani continues as the former federal prosecutor, New York City mayor and lawyer to a president, had his law license suspended after a New York court ruled on Thursday that he made “demonstrably false and misleading statements” while fighting the results of the 2020 election on behalf of his client former president Donald Trump. For the life of me I cannot understand how a person who was known as America’s mayor after 9/11 would choose to put his entire reputation on the line by selling the “Big Lie” when he knew it was not true.
Per the NY Times, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Thursday that she would move to create a select committee to further investigate the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, promising a meticulous look into the riot and its root causes after Senate Republicans blocked a bipartisan push to form an independent commission to do so. Ms. Pelosi had maintained that she preferred that the Senate follow the House’s lead and approve a bill to form a bipartisan commission, modeled after the one that investigated the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. But with Republicans opposed and many G.O.P. lawmakers working to downplay the insurrection she conceded that no longer seemed possible. Fewer than 10 Republicans — the number needed to overcome a legislative filibuster — supported such an inquiry when it came to a vote in the Senate this month. This is not an ideal approach but a thorough investigation is needed for us to get to the truth as to what was done by whom.
Today the Justice Department announced it is suing Georgia over a sweeping voting law passed by the state’s Republican-led legislature, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland announced on Friday, in a major step by the Biden administration to confront state-level ballot restrictions enacted since the 2020 election. Since a majority of states have passed new voting legislation since the 2020 election, this case will have a major impact on many other states’ laws.
Stay safe. Wash your hands regularly. Social Distance. Wear your mask properly. Schedule your vaccine.
