I love stories like this. Gwen Goldman,70, has adored the Yankees for her entire life. So when she was 10, Goldman wrote the Yankees a letter asking to serve as their bat girl, the person responsible for helping to retrieve bats and fulfill other tasks during a game. But in the letter she received back, dated June 12, 1961, the Yankees’ general manager at the time, Roy Hamey, told her no. Girls, he said, did not belong in the dugout. Sixty years later, the team righted that refusal. On Monday, Goldman was invited to the Bronx to serve as the bat girl for her beloved Yankees. Before a game against the Los Angeles Angels, she wiped a tear from her eye as she walked onto the field at Yankee Stadium for the first time.
Donald Rumsfeld, 88, died today. He served as the secretary of defense for two presidents. He was in charge of the invasion of the Iraq under George W. Bush. Mr. Rumsfeld also served under Gerald Ford and presided over America’s Cold War strategies in the 1970s. He was the only secretary of defense to serve two nonconsecutive terms. I admired Rumsfeld as a leader. He made decisions and he let people know how he felt. He was not afraid to express his opinion and he did it with passion. No double talk. I may not have agreed with all of his decisions but I admired his conviction. |
I have a strong feeling that former president Trump will grab on to the recent mayoral election errors (which were quickly corrected) that occurred in New York City. The error occurred because they included 135,000 test ballots within the actual vote tabulation. This will definitely feed the fire of the “Big Lie”.
The NY Times is reporting this evening A grand jury in Manhattan has indicted Donald J. Trump’s family business, the Trump Organization, and one of its top executives in connection with a tax investigation into fringe benefits handed out at the company, people familiar with the matter said on Wednesday. The specific charges against the company and its chief financial officer, Allen H. Weisselberg, were not immediately clear. The indictment was expected to be unsealed Thursday afternoon after Mr. Weisselberg and lawyers for the Trump Organization appear in court.
