Leah walking out of the back door at our Ypsi home of nearly 38 years for the last time on Wednesday.
It finally happened. We have completed our move to Petoskey. All in all, it couldn’t have been better. Our selling agent Dennis Longo was outstanding, and the buying agent Scott Bethune was also great. It helped that both agents live within a block of our Ypsi home. They could speak honestly about the neighborhood.
Premier Relocation, an agent for Mayflower, totally exceeded expectations. From my first phone call in January, to the last follow-up phone call this morning, I couldn’t have asked for more. They have figured out what great customer service looks like.
Now it is on to unpacking. There is no rush because we have the rest of our lives to complete it.

I never thought I would hear this.
Leah made a garden book for the new owners explaining everything there is to know about our flower garden. Leah shared the book with my granddaughter Alexis. After looking it over, Alexis said, “Grammy you wrote it in cursive. Are you sure the new owners know how to read cursive?” The thought of not being able to read cursive never crossed our minds.
A few days later, we were out to dinner with some friends, and I asked every wait person who came to our table if they could write or read cursive. They all said they could only write their name in cursive and not one said they could read cursive very well, if at all. Today when I talked to my agent, he told me the new couple loved the garden book and they were able to read the cursive writing.

One of our own ejected Tiger Manager A.J. Hinch yesterday. Nic Lentz, from Hartland, Michigan and an instructor at the Southeast Michigan Umpire Camp, was the plate umpire during yesterday’s game. Former Divine Child graduate, Eric Haase, was not happy with a couple of strikes Nic called on Haase and Haase provided Nic with feedback. Nic took exception and took off his mask and stepped toward Haase. That brought out A.J. who intervened so Haase would not get ejected (it is against the rules to argue balls and strikes). It didn’t take long for Nic to eject A.J. None of it mattered as the Tigers lost 8-0. I cannot wait to hear Nic’s side of the story.

As President Biden and Speaker McCarthy showed optimism that a deal on the debt limit will happen, I was not surprised to hear congress members from both sides of the aisle start complaining about any compromise that Biden and McCarthy agree to. There is not one congress person who wants to be on record as the person who caused the U.S. to default on its debt. All the noise is about positioning for votes in 2024 and making soundbites that can be used in their campaigns.

Quote of the Day: “I can write my signature in cursive because I have to, but I cannot write in cursive and I cannot read cursive.” One of the young waitstaff we asked about being able to read or write in cursive.
Onion of the Day: Our legal system. A Detroit area federal judge recently granted payments totaling $47 million in attorney fees and expenses for legal work done by the attorneys in the Flint Water crisis. In the meantime, not one Flint resident has received as much as a dollar from the $625 million settlement from the state.
Question of the Day: When and why did cursive become extinct in our schools?
Orchid of the Day and Video of the Day: Watch the video and you will see why the plate umpire got my Orchid of the Day.
