Since I swore off watching the Lions, the Wolverines, the Spartans and the EMU Eagles three weeks ago, the four teams are a combined 2-9 in the last three weeks. Yesterday, the Lions suffered their first shutout in eleven years as they lost to the Carolina Panthers 20-0. The Panthers started a journeyman quarterback, who had completed only 8 passes in his NFL career. Against the Lions he completed all four of his passes as he marched the Panthers down the field for their first quarter score. The Lions’ defense, like the Wolverines’, makes anybody look good.
Michigan State’s mens basketball coach has returned from his bout with Covid-19. The Spartans coach tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 9 and immediately self-isolated at home. On Monday, the school announced that Izzo was back in the basketball offices after observing practices on Friday and Saturday. Upon his return Coach Izzo said, “While some people who have tested positive have not been affected too much by it, I am here to tell you that this virus is no joke and everyone must take this seriously.” Amen to that. Wear a mask, social distance, and wash your hands often.
The State of Michigan Board of Canvassers earlier today voted 3-0 to certify the results of Michigan’s election after taking about three hours of public comment. This allows Governor Whitmer to choose the 16 Democratic electors who will vote as Michigan’s electoral college for the presidential election on December 14. On another note, The New York Times is reporting Emily Murphy, the administrator of the General Services Administration, on Monday formally designated Joseph R. Biden Jr. as the apparent winner of the presidential election, providing federal funds and resources to begin a transition and authorizing his advisers to begin coordinating with Trump administration officials.
NCAA mens basketball starts this week as MSU takes on Eastern Michigan and U of M takes on Bowling Green. Both MSU and Michigan are ranked in the top 25 at the start of this year. Both are always candidates to make the Final Four. This year will be no different as both teams add strong recruiting classes to experienced returning starters. College basketball is my favorite sport to watch. The games are usually over in two hours and the BIG is probably the most competitive conference top to bottom in the country. Most games come down to the last four minutes. Let the fun begin.
Can’t give you the B1G as the best. Gotta go with the ACC!
