Back on March 27, 2009 when the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped to 7,064, I never thought I would live long enough to ever see the average above 25,000 let alone 30,000. Well today it closed at 30,046 the first time in history it passed the 30,000 mark. A 400% increase in 11 and 1/2 years. The last 11 years have been a boon for those who didn’t panic and kept their investments in the market.
President Elect Biden is putting together his cabinet, which looks like America as a whole. Lots of women and people of color with different ethnicities. Janet Yellen as Secretary of Treasury is a good pick. Not only is she the first women Secretary of Treasury she was also the first chairwomen of the Federal Reserve. She is extremely qualified for the position of Secretary of Treasury.
Covid-19 social distancing is going to be a real problem for me during the next few months. With less than 10 hours of daylight each day from now until late January, it is going to be a challenge for me to keep my spirits up. I am a social person who enjoys being out and about with other people, which is not a safe thing to do right now. It is a good thing Leah and I like each other. I got a feeling I am going to be getting my ass kicked in a lot of Scrabble games.
Today I listened to an inteview with Patricia “Patti” Poppe, the outgoing chairperson of CMS Energy and newly named chairperson of Pacific Gas and Electric. PG&E is receiving a lot of criticism for allegedly taking profits over safety. Their company has been accused of causing 100s of forest fires in Northern California, including the biggest in history. During the interview Poppe made a strong case as to how climate change has been a major contributor to the increase in forest fires and the energy companies are not changing their approach to forest management as quickly as needed. Poppe will have her hands full at PG&E. Based on her track record at CMS Energy I am sure she is up for the challenge.
Stay safe, wear your mask, social distance and wash your hands regularly
