One of the best quotes I have heard in the last 48 hours comes from Ed Randall, former democratic governor of Pennsylvania. Today on CNN he said, “This time requires goodness in America.” This is a quote that really resonates with me.
As I have been switching channels throughout the last 48 hours, I am really impressed with John King of CNN. He is really impressive the way he jumps around on his election board, with very little slip ups. He seems to know the names of every county in every state. Most impressive is his patience and constant reminders that we have to count the votes before making predictions. He is constantly preaching patience. I believe CNN takes their cue from him, as CNN has not called Arizona yet, even though Fox News has called Arizona for Biden.
I have also been impressed with the many secretaries of states and the election officials throughout the country. My guess is that they have had very little sleep in the last 72 hours, yet they still make themselves available to the national and local news stations and they do it with a smile on their face. The stress they are under must be overwhelming.
While we are focused on the election, let us not forget we are still under a devistating pandemic. Today, over 100,000 new cases were reported today in the U.S., a daily record. In addition, Michigan reported over 4,000 new cases, also a daily record. Although deaths remain low, hopitalizations are up 20% in the last week. Hospitalizations in Michigan are creeping up to the mid-April levels in Michigan, when the hospitals in SE Michigan were overwhelmed. Unfortunately, the hospitalizations are occurring in areas of the state that do not have the capacity of the hospitals in SE Michigan.
After this last weekend, when both the Wolverines and the Lions layed eggs with their effort, game plans, and lack of in-game adjustments, I have decided to no longer waste another minute of my life watching the Wolverines or Lions. I have only so much quality time left. I cannot afford wasting it on lost causes.
O – H – I – O……..
I root for OSU, as long as they are not playing Michigan or Michigan State. That is more than most OSU fans can say. I appreciate greatness and OSU is above and beyond anyone in the B1G as it relates to football. Basketball, not so much.
