Because of the closeness of the presidential election which is still too close to call, the focus on the counting process throughout the country, but especially in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada and North Carolina is an eye opener to me. It is clear to me, that the process of counting votes is thorough, fair, and accurate. It is clear to me that nothing is more important to the election officials, whether Repbulican or Democrat, than the integrity of the counting process. They all seem to understand that the integrity of the counting process is so important to the integretiy of our democracy.
This election is going to be decided by the narrowest of margins in so many states for not only the presidential race, but also for many of the senatorial and house of representative contests. Who knows how many local races are going to be decided are going to be decided by the narrowest of margins? Regardless, I am confident that the integrity of our vote counting is second to none. As much as I am discouraged by the behavior of many of our national politicians, I am really encouraged by the character of our election officials throughout this country.
During the last 72 hours, I have had the pleasure of having very political discussions with my two adult children. Inspite of the fact that our political beliefs are sometimes different, it makes me very proud as a parent to know that we can have adult conversations about our different beliefs and still be respectfull to each other. Over the years, I have preached to my kids that it is OK to disagree but it is never OK to be disagreeable. It makes me proud as a parent to know that in a time when political beliefs have been so polarizing, my adult kids and I can have adult conversations and agree to disgree but are not disagreeable. I wish that our political leaders could learn to do the same.

We are having rare weather in Petoskey for early November. Today it was sunny and 70 degrees, with Saturday and Sunday forecasted to be similar. I am scheduled to golf on Sunday at Charlevoix Golf Club. I am looking forward to a rare day like this in northern Michigan during the month of November.
