Peace in the Middle East is an Oxymoron
Per the NY Times tonight.
Iran fired several waves of ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday evening in a sudden assault that raised the likelihood of a direct all-out war between two of the most powerful militaries in the Middle East.
The attack from Iran was the culmination of a dizzying sequence of events over less than 24 hours that began with Israel launching a ground invasion into Lebanon to pursue Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed Lebanese militia.
Israel pounded Lebanon from the air throughout Tuesday as its troops advanced on the ground and Hezbollah fired rockets deep into Israel, killing 55 people and wounding 156 across Lebanon, according to the Lebanese health ministry.
Iran fired about 180 missiles during its assault, the Israeli military said, a significant barrage that forced millions of Israelis to take cover in bomb shelters for more than an hour. Many of the missiles were intercepted by Israel’s air defense system, while some fell in central and southern Israel, according to the Israeli military.
There were no immediate reports of casualties in Israel, but one Palestinian man was killed by falling shrapnel in the occupied West Bank.
“Based on what we know now, the attack appears to have been defeated and ineffective,” President Biden said on Tuesday, noting that the U.S. military “actively supported” Israel’s defense. He added, “Make no mistake, the United States is fully, fully, fully supportive of Israel.”
This is crazy. The U.S. support of Israel must no longer be unconditional.
Lying and falsehoods are part of his makeup, and the Republican Party continues to allow it to happen.
It is well documented that the former president thinks nothing of lying and spreading false stories. It is part of his character, which is why he should never hold public office again. His word cannot be trusted. Usually I ignore him, but his lies this weekend about how Biden was not taking North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s calls following the disaster caused by Helene got to me.
With all Governor Cooper is dealing with in his state, he shouldn’t be forced to defend President Biden from the lies that the former president is spreading. Yet, that is what Cooper had to do. Even after Cooper called out the former president’s falsehoods and lies about Biden’s response, the former president continued his falsehoods and lies.
A person with any kind of integrity would stop the lies and falsehoods once they are called out. The former president has no integrity; therefore, he thinks nothing a doubling down on his lies and falsehoods, even when he has been called out on the lies and falsehoods.
The former president is playing with the emotions of the citizens of North Carolina at a time when they are devasted. It is a time when they need the truth from their leaders. Governor Cooper and President Biden are doing everything in their power to provide the relief that is needed. It is a disgrace the former president is only thinking about how he can use a 100-year disaster to his advantage by spreading lies and falsehoods without thinking about how his lies are playing with the emotions of people in their time of need.
When a reporter asked President Biden and Democratic North Carolina governor Roy Cooper to respond to Trump’s accusation that they are ignoring the disaster, Biden responded: “He’s lying. And the governor told him he was lying…. I’ve spoken to the governor, spent time with him…. I don’t know why he does this. And the reason I get so angry about it, I don’t care about what he says about me, but I care what he communicates to the people that are in need. He implies that we’re not doing everything possible. We are…. I assume you heard the Republican Governor of Georgia talk about that he was on the phone with me more than once. So that’s simply not true. And it’s irresponsible.”
It has been a great 24 hours for Detroit Sports fans
Last night, Jarod Goff and the Detroit Lions offense put on a clinic in their 42-29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks came into the game undefeated, but Goff and the Lions’ offense shredded the Seahawks defense. Goff set an NFL record by completing all 18 of his passes. To top it off, he caught a touchdown pass on a trick play in which he handed off a ball to Amon Ra St. Brown who ran right and turned and threw back to the left flat where Goff was wide open at the five-yard line. Goff waltzed into the endzone for his first receiving touchdown ever.
In Houston today, the Tigers continued their magical run as they beat the Houston Astros 3-1 in the first game of the Wild Card round. Tiger ace Tarik Skubal shut down Houston over the first 6 innings, with Bill Vest, Tyler Holton, Jason Foley, and Beau Brieske handling the last three innings. There drama in the bottom of the ninth as the Astros mounted a rally around a double and two infield singles off of Foley, but Brieske who has ice in his veins, shut the Astros down with the tying run on second. In describing Tiger Manager A.J. Hinch’s ability to get the most out of the Tiger bullpen, the television announcer described it best, which is my Quote of the Day.
“A.J. Hinch is playing chess with his moves, while the rest of the league is playing checkers.”
The Hit King, Charlie Hustle Dies
Pete Rose, MLB’s all-time hit leader, with the nickname of “Charlie Hustle” passed away yesterday at age 83.
Rose was part of Cincinnati’s Big Red Machine in the early 70s, one of the best baseball teams in history, winning two World Series Championships. He later was traded to the Phillies, where he continued his remarkable hitting while helping the Phillies win a World Series.
Rose ended his career as a player/manager of the Reds which was a rare roll in baseball. He eventually retired as a player and became the full-time manager. It was as a manager that his gambling on baseball came to light. After an extended investigation in which Rose continued to deny his betting on baseball, Rose eventually agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball and forfeited his right to be inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame.
There is no doubt Rose’s playing career was Hall of Fame worthy. However, his gambling on games and then denying it, even when MLB had hard proof, was his downfall. I firmly believe that Rose would be in the Hall of Fame if he would have admitted his gambling mistake, apologized for his behavior, and agreed to get help. Instead, he fought the accusations until it was too late.

Orchid of the Day: Former President Jimmy Carter, who turned 100 today.
Onion of the Day: Former president 45 for his lies and falsehoods without regard to the impact those lies and falsehoods have on the emotions of the millions of people battered by hurricane Helene.
Question of the Day: What now, when it comes to the Middle East? How many more people must die? How much more property will be ruined?
