Onion of the Day: Attorney General Dana Nessel
I should have known better.
As the election for AG tightens with only a week until election day, AG Nessel continues to pull out all the stops to try to gain votes, including her announcement to today that she plans to appeal to the Michigan Supreme Court in the Flint Water Crisis. A court who has already shot this case down on a unanimous vote in June.
The key word in her announcement is “plans”. Plans is not a commitment. She gets the publicity of her announcement a week before the election, and then once the election is over, she can change her plan. No harm no foul.
Nowhere in her announcement is any mention of the over $50 million she has spent on the case to date, and the estimated additional $37 million and three years it will require to form a Taint Team to sort through all the attorney client privilege information her team of lawyers gathered while defending in a civil case the same people she now wants to prosecute. Nessel has lost every legal battle to date on this ill-advised prosecution, including her being rebuked by the Michigan Supreme court.
Since January 2021, I have said this case is not a criminal case. It has been settled in civil court for over $650 million and has no business in a criminal court. This is not her money she is spending on this ill-advised case. It is not a law firm’s money. It our money, the taxpayers’ money, she has wasted, all for her own political gain.

I am not watching the debate tonight between Tudor Dixon and Governor Whitmer. I have already voted and returned my ballot to the Resort Township Clerk for processing. Regardless, I want to acknowledge this is a historic election for Michigan. It is the first time two women are the prime candidates for governor. There has been no talk about whether a woman can lead the state, or whether a woman can be a productive governor. This election is about the Tudor Dixon and Governor Whitmer and the issues they are backing. Embrace the progress.

The World Series is scheduled to start this Friday. The Houston Astros vs. the Philadelphia Phillies. The best team in the American League against the third-place team in the National League East Division. The Phillies were the last team to qualify for the playoffs this year, and they had the worst record of all the playoff teams. They were so bad early in the season, they fired their manager. On paper this series is no contest. The Astros haven’t lost a game in the playoffs and have 7-0 playoff record this year and the Phillies have been squeaking out games to advance.
Don’t count the Phillies out. Anything can happen in a seven-game series, especially at this time of year, when the weather is marginal, and players are fighting through nagging injuries.
As you watch the World Series, take a good look at the defensive shifts, for it will be the last time you see them as they will be outlawed next year.

This years MLB playoffs, for the most part have been free of umpire controversy. To date, I have not received one email, one text or a phone call about a call that was made in the playoffs. This is rare. Last year at this time, I wrote an entire blog about what constitutes a check swing.

The golf courses are closed at Boyne and most of Petoskey. I am back in Ypsilanti for the next few months. I am back to cutting grass, raking leaves, shoveling snow, and everything else that comes with owning an old home.
Please feel free to share my blog.
Elections Matter. Pray for peace and tolerance. What are you doing to stop the violence and mass killings?

Orchid of the Day: The Detroit Red Wings. They have yet to lose a game in regulation and have a 3-0-2 record and they have not given up a power play goal in 17 penalty kills.
