Thoughts for the Day, September 10, 2021: Never forget

It is a great time to be a lawyer.

Fifty-one Henry Ford Health System sued the system I’ve its mask mandate. Today they withdrew their suit hours before their scheduled hearing before a judge.

President Biden issued an executive order mandating vaccines for all federal employees.  For businesses with over 100 employees, vaccines or weekly testing are mandated.  Republicans say the order is unconstitutional and they will see Biden in court.  He says have at it.

A group of parents in the Manchester, Michigan school district were outside the schools urging the sons and daughters to ignore the Washtenaw County mask mandate for in person classes and instead follow Manchester’s masks are optional plan.

Today a federal judge upheld Florida’s law which allows anyone to opt out of a school district’s mask mandate requirements.  School administrators who discipline a student for not wearing a mask may be prosecuted for violating the state requirement. It reverses a lower court decision which supported school districts right to enforce mask mandates.

A federal judge on Thursday extended the pause to Western Michigan University’s athlete vaccine mandate, allowing 16 unvaccinated athletes to continue playing until he issues an opinion on the request to stop the university policy.

The way we are going “mask” will become a four-letter word.

Tomorrow is the 20-year anniversary of 9/11. Three thousand people died that day and thousands more have died prematurely due to the environmental exposures they endured that day. Please take the time to remember those who lost their lives and to those who did so much to save others and help the injured.  Also remember how united we were as a country for the next few months. It would be nice to get back to the feeling of being united, even when we disagree.

Stay safe.  Wear your mask when appropriate.  Wash your hands regularly.  Social distance when indoors.  Schedule your vaccine and booster when it becomes available.

Orchid of the Day:  To all the first responders and medical personnel who did so much on 9/11 20 years ago.

Onion of the Day: To the word “mask”.  You are dividing this country.  Next thing you know is that you will be a subject that can no longer be discussed at Thanksgiving dinner.

Quote of the Day:  “Have at it.”  President Biden after facing accusations from Republicans of an abuse of power and threats of lawsuits.
