| As one who is fully vaccinated, I am so confused as to what my risk of catching the disease and getting so sick I could be hospitalized or worse. In July The C.D.C. reported a terrifying fact in July: Vaccinated people with the Delta variant of the Covid virus carried roughly the same viral load in their noses and throats as unvaccinated people. Then today, the NY Times published an article saying that the true picture is less alarming. Yes, Delta has increased the chances of getting Covid for almost everyone. But if you’re vaccinated, a Covid infection is still uncommon, and those high viral loads are not as worrisome as they initially sounded. How small are the chances of the average vaccinated American contracting Covid? Probably about one in 5,000 per day, and even lower for people who take precautions or live in a highly vaccinated community. In the meantime, another person we know who was fully vaccinated contracted Covid-19 and is now on a ventilator in an ICU. All I can do is stay vigilant, wear my mask indoors, wash my hands regularly and minimize my exposure. I am so tired of Covid-19. |
One of my favorite television shows was The Wire on HBO. The show was about drugs, crime and corruption in the City of Baltimore. It ran for five seasons on HBO. One of my favorite characters on the show was Omar Little played by Michael.K.Wiliams who died suddenly on Monday at age 54.In the Wire Omar Little was a sometime charming vigilante who held up low-level drug dealers.. Omar was gay and openly so in the homophobic, coldblooded world of murder and drugs, a groundbreaking portrayal of a gay Black man on television.
I was talking to a colleague at the gyn today and he said cyber attacks will be the future terrorism. I then read this today in the NY Times. Howard University, one of the country’s leading historically Black colleges and universities, canceled some classes for a second day after it was hit with a ransomware attack. All online and hybrid undergraduate classes are suspended for Wednesday. All in-person classes in Washington will resume as scheduled.
Per the Detroit News, former President Donald Trump endorsed state Rep. Steve Carra on Tuesday in his primary bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, a longtime Republican congressman from southwest Michigan. Upton, who was first elected to the U.S. House in 1986, voted to impeach Trump in January after the insurrection at the Capitol. He hasn’t said if he’ll seek reelection in 2022 but he’s been raising money for a potential campaign. Not having the former president’s backing could be a problem for Upton because Trump remains popular within the Michigan GOP. I hope Upton survives this challenge. Although I may not agree with his politics, I have always found him to be a voice of reason.

Onion of the Day: To the wife of one of my golf partners who questioned our sanity for deciding to play golf yesterday with threatening weather all around us. We delayed our tee time by forty minutes and had a great time and never felt a drop of rain.
